Mr. Roane began his career with Ottawa based Bell Northern Research (Nortel Networks) as an Integrated Circuit designer and later as project leader. Mr. Roane was Director of the Integration Technologies Department in Novatel Communications in Calgary, Alberta where he was responsible for cellphone miniaturization. Afterward, Mr. Roane worked for National Semiconductor heading up its Canadian IC operations, developing custom products for the telecommunication and automotive industries. Mr. Roane was also Vice President of Engineering for Sirific Wireless where he was responsible for all product development and operations.
Mr. Tom Riley
CTO and Founder
Mr. Riley is the Chief Technical Officer at KABEN which he founded in 2000. He has over twenty years of experience, in academia and industry, in analog and mixed-signal IC design with emphasis on wireless applications. As a co-inventor of the fractional-N Delta-Sigma synthesizer, his research helped drive industry wide adoption of this type of frequency synthesis. He also invented a novel advanced filtering technique known as Sampled IF (SIF) which is suitable for widespread adoption, especially in reconfigurable radio front ends. He has published over fifteen papers in the integrated circuits field. He is a prolific inventor and holds many patents in the area of mixed-signal RF design.
Tom’s past career positions include a variety of R&D and advanced engineering functions with companies such as Nortel Semiconductor, Mitel Semiconductor, Gennum, CAL, Conexant (formerly Philsar Semiconductor) and as a research engineer with Carleton University.
Dr. Jim Wight
Chief Scientist
Dr. Wight is an authority in wireless systems, in particular in OFDM based standards such as WiFi and WiMax, in MIMO techniques, and in phase-locked synchronizers. Previously, Dr. Wight has acted as Chief Architect and Co-Founder of AlleWin Technologies, a DSP innovator of MIMO techniques, Principal Architect and Co-Founder of IceFyre Semiconductor, a fabless provider of high performance WiFi RF solutions, and Senior Radio Architect for Philsar Electronics, a fabless innovator of Bluetooth transceivers.
Before migrating to the wireless industry, Dr. Wight held senior positions in several aerospace corporations, including Spread Spectrum Program Manager for CAL Corporation and EMS, and Special Advisor of Advanced Technology for Vistar Aerospace.
At Carleton University in Ottawa, Dr. Wight holds the distinguished title and position of Chancellor’s Professor.
Dr. Norm Filiol
Chief Architect and Co-Founder
Dr. Filiol has over 15 years of IC design and systems experience in the wireless applications industry. He is an expert in frequency synthesis and transceiver architectures for wireless applications, with more than ten published papers in the wireless communications area and several patents. He spent three years at Nortel Semiconductor working on fractional-N frequency synthesis, after which he joined Philsar Semiconductor. While at Philsar, he was one of the architects that developed the world’s lowest power consumption Bluetooth RF transceiver. Dr. Norm Filiol is also an Adjunct Research Professor with the Department of Electronics at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada and maintains close research ties with University of Oulu in Finland.
Mr. Seste Dell’Aera
Director of Sales & Marketing and Co-Founder
Mr. Dell’Aera is the Director of Sales & Marketing at KABEN. He has twenty seven years of experience in technical sales and marketing. During the last fifteen years, he helped to build early stage startup companies and was Director of Sales and Marketing with Philsar Semiconductor and V.P. of Sales and Marketing at OEone Corporation. He has been published numerous times in leading communications magazines and has co-authored several patents.
Mr. Richard Beriault
Director of Engineering
Mr. Beriault brings twenty-three years of experience spanning all areas of Full Custom and SoC Integrated Circuit design and hardware development. He established the Mtekvision Canada / CogniVue R&D center wehere as Director of SoC Engineering, General Manager and VP of Research and Development, assembled a seasoned team of sixty employees. He led the R&D center to develop the MapleTM family of multimedia processors to mass production with tier-one customers in multiple mobile handsets sold worldwide (more than 15 million processors sold by 2011).
As Director of Engineering at Atsana Semiconductor, Richard built a solid engineering team. Richard was Project Manager and Principal Engineer at Philsar Semiconductor and was responsible for the first commercially successful Delta-Sigma Fractional-N Synthesizer. Richard also worked at Nortel Networks where he led and/or developed 8 products from specification to production. He holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa and is the inventor of three patents.
Mr. Terry Kenny
Director of Operations
Mr. Kenny has over 15 years experience in engineering management positions. His technical expertise lies in system and circuit design in wireless and wireline products including waveguide filters for satellite transponders, HMIC GaAs MESFET amplifiers, fractional-N frequency synthesizers, E1/T1 digital PLLs, TDMA/CDMA base stations and DOCSIS cable modems. Additionally he has over 10 years experience in the design and development of mixed signal ICs including switched capacitor oversampling ADCs and high order chebychev and elliptical active high pass and low pass filters based upon biquad stages.
