SIF ADC – IF Digitizer

The SIF ADC is Kaben’s latest breakthrough technology. This technology can be used as an IF digitizer. It operates by monolithically uniting Kaben’s sampled IF (SIF) filter technology with an ADC. The SIF filter provides the necessary anti-aliasing for the internal ADC core. The field programmable tap coefficients of the SIF filter technology offer the application-specific filtering needed to address a variety of  wireless and wireline market segments. Up to 256 taps gives the SIF filter nearly brickwall transition bands with well controlled group delay variation.

In one configuration, the SIF ADC can support a 10 bit ADC with a maximum sampling frequency of 400 MHz. For applications requiring high dynamic range, 14 bit ADCs can be supported with a maximum sampling frequency of 120 MHz. The combination of LNA and AGC provides the flexibility to adjust the NF, gain and linearity for optimum performance.

Mixed-signal system engineers will appreciate that the anti-aliasing provided by the SIF filter allows a variety of frequency translation options. The anti-alias filtering allows for selecting the desired Nyquist band while suppressing undesired aliases. Within the desired Nyquist band, an applications-specific bandwidth can be programmed into the filter.

The programmable nature of this technology allows system engineers to address numerous opportunities over an extremely wide range of applications.
